The northwest side has some of the oldest housing stock we work on. The neighborhoods off Spicewood Springs and Balcones went up in the 1960s and 1970s, Milwood and Anderson Mill filled in through the late 1970s and 1980s, and the Great Hills area followed after that. Very few of those homes are on an original roof, and plenty are on their third.
That changes the conversation. On a newer house the question is usually whether a storm did damage. Here it’s more often how much life is left, and whether it’s worth spending on a repair when the whole roof is close to done. We’d rather answer that honestly than sell you the bigger job.
Austin also gets the same spring hail as the rest of Central Texas, and the tree cover on this side of town brings its own problems. Overhanging limbs abrade shingles, drop debris into valleys, and hold moisture against a roof that would otherwise dry out.
What We Do in Austin
Four things, and we’d rather do the smallest one that actually solves your problem.
Leak repair
Tracing the leak is where most Austin jobs start. Water runs along decking before it drops, so the stain on your ceiling is rarely under the hole. On older roofs the source is usually flashing at a chimney or sidewall, a failed pipe boot, or a valley that has been patched before and patched badly.
Roof replacement
When a roof has aged out across every slope rather than failing in one place, a new roof is the cheaper decision even though it’s the bigger invoice. On houses of this era we’re often replacing decking as well, and that gets priced separately because nobody can see it until the old roof comes off.
Hail and storm damage
After a hailstorm the question is whether the impacts fractured the shingle mat or only knocked granules loose. Those are different problems and only one of them is worth a claim. We document both, hand you the photographs, and let you decide what to do with them.
Roof inspection
If you’re buying on this side of town, a roof report is worth an hour of the option period. A 1970s house with a roof of unknown age is a different purchase depending on whether you’re inheriting two years or twelve, and a general home inspection rarely tells you which.
Where We Work on the Austin Side
We work the northwest side out of the Balcones Club Drive location, including Balcones Woods, Milwood, Anderson Mill, Jollyville, Great Hills, Spicewood Springs, Northwest Hills, and Wells Branch. We also install a metal option where a homeowner wants something longer-lived than asphalt, which suits the simpler rooflines out here better than the cut-up ones.

Permits for reroofing are handled through Austin Development Services, and our permit partners file what’s needed for your address. Most of the northwest side sits in Travis County, though the county line runs through parts of it, so build records may be held by either Travis Central Appraisal District or its Williamson County equivalent.

Do you actually work in Austin, or just Williamson County?
Austin is its own base with its own listing and its own number, working out of Balcones Club Drive on the northwest side. It isn’t a drive down from Cedar Park. Where else we work is set out on the homepage if you want the full picture.
What does a roof cost in Austin?
Square footage, pitch, material, and how much decking has to be replaced once the old roof comes off. Older houses on this side of town need decking work more often than newer ones, which is why we price it separately rather than folding a guess into the quote. What it costs here goes through the ranges properly.
My house is from the 1970s. Can it still be repaired?
Sometimes, and it depends on what the rest of the roof looks like rather than on the age of the house. A patch tied into brittle shingles won’t hold. If the surrounding material still has life in it, a repair is the right call and we’ll say so.
Are you available at night or on weekends in Austin?
The Austin line runs 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Cedar Park at (512) 566-5510 and Round Rock at (512) 566-5511 answer around the clock, and either can dispatch to Austin. If water is actively coming in, call one of those rather than waiting for Monday.
Do I need a permit to reroof in Austin?
Reroofing requirements are set by the City of Austin and our permit partners handle the filing for your address, so you aren’t chasing paperwork. If you’re in an HOA, that approval usually takes longer than the permit does.
Will the trees on my lot shorten the life of my roof?
They can. Overhanging limbs abrade shingles in wind, drop debris that blocks valleys, and keep sections of the roof damp that would otherwise dry. Trimming back from the roofline is one of the cheapest things you can do for it.
Do you work with insurance after hail?
We’ll meet your adjuster at the property, walk the roof with them, and provide our documentation. We don’t file the claim on your behalf and we won’t tell you a claim exists when it doesn’t.
